Initial environmental appraisal for food manufacturing plant

En-Sure was engaged by a food processing plant to carry out a preliminary assessment of its operations, in preparation for the company’s application with MEPA and the Water Services Corporation for an environmental permit and a sewer discharge permit.

The appraisal included a meeting with company representatives, a detailed site visit and a review of the company’s records.  The evaluation covered the following environmental aspects:

• Site and environmental management;
• Waste management;
• Air emissions from boilers, generators and cooling towers;
• Surface water and wastewater management;
• Use of raw materials, chemicals and fuels;
• Storage;
• Noise;
• Use of refrigerants; and
• Emergency response.

The company was presented with a report that identified the areas where the plant is run in accordance with legislation or best practice, and also included recommendations for improvement of operations where necessary.
